Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Partner Scholarship at the Vermont College of Fine Arts

The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop is delighted to announce a Partnered Institution Scholarship at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.  Prospective students, who are Cambridge Writers’ Workshop alumni, faculty, staff, or affiliates are welcome to apply for a Partnered Institution Scholarship at VCFA’s two-year residential MFA in Writing & Publishing program for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Scholarships of $1000-5000 are available to Cambridge Writers’ Workshop alumni and affiliates. In the case of the Cambridge Writers’ Workshop, CWW alumni must have completed at least one course in the last 3 years to be eligible for the scholarship. Prospective MFA students must begin their application on SlideRoom by February 1 to be considered for scholarships.

In addition to the Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Partnered Institution Scholarships, the MFA in Writing & Publishing program at the Vermont College of Fine Arts announces the following Diversity Scholarships with a February 1 priority scholarship deadline for Fall 2019 enrollment.

Indigenous Peoples Scholarships

Tuition scholarships ranging from $1,000-$5,000 may be awarded to applicants who belong to an indigenous group anywhere in the world. With regard to the location of our Vermont-based campus, indigenous peoples living in the Northeastern United States will be given preference and are especially encouraged to apply.

International Scholarships

Tuition scholarships ranging from $1,000-$5,000 may be awarded to writers who live outside of the US and who are not US citizens in order to support VCFA’s global mission.

New American Scholarships

Tuition scholarships ranging from $1,000-$5,000 may be awarded to writers permanently residing in the United States who were born outside of the country. We believe immigrant and migrant writers are vital and necessary within the US literary community.

Veteran Scholarships

Tuition scholarships of $3,000 may be awarded to US Veterans to attend our MFA in Writing & Publishing program in recognition of their sacrifice and contributions.

Writers of Color & LGBTQ+ Scholarships

Tuition scholarships ranging from $1,000-$5,000 may be awarded to writers of color and/or writers from LGBTQ+ communities in order to create opportunities for traditionally underrepresented writers.

June 15: CWW Summer in Paris & Granada Writing Retreat & Scholarships Deadlines

June 15 is the deadline to apply for the Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Summer in Paris and Summer in Granada Writing Retreats and Scholarships.  So many sure to get in your applications at http://cww.submittable.com by then!

Our Summer in Paris Writing Retreat will be held from July 25th – 30th, 2018 and will include poets and fiction writers Kathleen Spivack, Kristina Marie Darling, Rita Banerjee, and Diana Norma Szokolyai teaching eclectic multi-genre workshops.

Situated in the heart of Paris’ Montparnasse neighborhood, amongst the fresh and popular open air markets and charming boutiques, the hotel stay is full of Parisian charm and our classes will take place in a beautiful Moroccan themed room that opens to a courtyard that can also be used by our writers.

Retreat activities will include craft of writing seminars and creative writing workshops, literary tours of Paris. If you’re serious about writing and want to soak in some exquisite French culture this summer, join our retreat in Paris!

Our Summer in Granada Writing Retreat will be from August 1st-6th, 2018 and will feature faculty members Tim Horvath, Diana Norma Szokolyai, and Rita Banerjee.

Intellectual, diverse, and artistic, this town will always have creative opportunities and events to experience. No matter how you choose to spend your time, this city is full inspiration. The retreat offers multi-genre workshops, as well as craft seminars and time to write.

For both retreats, please submit 5-10 pages of poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, or a play with a $10 application fee, a cover letter, and references at cww.submittable.com. Please also include the following in your cover letter:

4. Prior Workshop Experience and Publications

The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Spring in New Orleans Writing Retreat will take place from March 23-26, 2017, and will coincide with the Tennessee Williams Literary Festival.  Known for its Spanish and French architecture, live jazz, cajun food, and street festivals, New Orleans offers an inspirational and one-of-a-kind environment for creative writers. During the retreat, we will be staying in the lovely Algiers Point neighborhood, just a short ferry ride away from the Historic French Quarter.  Our retreat features multi-genre workshops, as well as craft seminars and time to write.  The faculty includes award-winning writers Dipika Guha, Emily Nemens, Rita Banerjee, and Diana Norma Szokolyai. Genres include playwriting, nonfiction, fiction, and poetry.  The cost of the retreat is $750, which includes tuition, lodging, and some meals.

The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Spring in Portland Writing Retreat will take place from April 22-24, 2017.  While you’re in the home of writers Cheryl Strayed and Ursula K. Le Guin, feel free to go bicycling and explore the terrain, hike, or relax at local cafes for people watching—no matter how you choose to spend your time, this city is full inspiration. We will be staying in the Alberta Arts District during the retreat, an area that is sure to inspire our participants and help them create.  The retreat offers multi-genre workshops, as well as craft seminars and time to write. The faculty includes award-winning writers Adam Reid Sexton, Kerry Cohen, Rita Banerjee, and Diana Norma Szokolyai. Genres include fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.  The cost of the retreat is $750, which includes tuition, lodging, and some meals.

And the Cambridge Writers’ Workshop Summer in Granada Writing Retreat will take place from August 2-6, 2017.  Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains in Andalucía, Granada is one of the gems of Spain and has inspired writers from Washington Irving to Salman Rushdie to Ali Smith. Let the old city stimulate your writing with its winding streets, Moorish history, and evocative landscapes.  Work on your existing manuscript, or look to the beauty and warmth of Granada to inspire all-new projects.  During the retreat, we will be staying at the Hotel Guadalupe, just a short walk from the Alhambra.  The retreat offers multi-genre workshops, as well as craft seminars and time to write. The faculty includes award-winning writers Tim Horvath, Alexandria Marzano-Lesnevich, Rita Banerjee, and Diana Norma Szokolyai. Genres include fiction, nonfiction, and poetry.  The cost of the retreat is $2950, which includes tuition, lodging, and daily breakfast.

The Cambridge Writers’ Workshop is offering scholarships for student writers, diversity fellows, and writers who are parents for our Summer 2016 Writing Retreats.  Join the CWW 2016 Summer in Barcelona and South of France Writing Retreat (July 18-26, 2016) and Summer in Granada, Spain Writing Retreat (July 28-August 5, 2016).  Our featured 2016 Summer writing faculty includes Harvard Director of Creative Writing Bret Anthony Johnston, Guggenheim-award winning essayist and nonfiction writer David Shields, novelist Alexander Chee, poets Rita Banerjee and Diana Norma Szokolyai, and yoga instructor Elissa Lewis.

Limited scholarships of $500-$1500 are available for each program.   Scholarships are available for student writers (for undergraduate or graduate students in literary fields), diversity fellows (for writers of color and writers from marginalized communities), and for writers who are parents.  The deadline to apply is June 10, 2016.  Applications are currently open at cww.submittable.com.

Support Scholarships for CWW Yoga & Writing Retreat in Picardy, France (Kickstarter!)

2013-07-25 09.23.10 Cambridge Writer’s Workshop is excited to announce that we are returning to Château de Verderonne from August 7-20, 2014. This trip is truly a once in a lifetime experience, and we’ve launched a Kickstarter Campaign to make the trip as accessible and memorable as possible for our participants.  From now until July 3rd, you can help back the trip and help us reach our goal of $5,000. The breakdown of this is simple: $3,000 to help fund scholarships for students and people from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds; $1,000 for in-country transportation fees including van rentals, train tickets, and hiring drivers for cultural trips; and $1,000 for instructor fees and overhead charges.

If you decide to contribute to the Kickstarter, CWW has lined up some great incentives for backers. The minimum donation is $1, and the more that’s donated, the better the rewards. $25 gets the backer yearly membership to Cambridge Writer’s Workshop NING on-line writer’s community network. Visual artists Elissa Lewis and Victor Pachas have contributed stunning pieces of handmade art to be given to those who donate $125. Those who donate $400 receive a personalized writing consultation and review of creative work, and for a $1000 contribution, the backer receives a personalized writing and yoga consultation. The highest contribution available is $3,200, which guarantees the backer a fully paid seat at the 2014 retreat, either for themselves or as a gift.
